How to Measure Your Pupillary Distance (PD)
Your Pupillary Distance (PD) is the distance (in millimeters) between the centers of your pupils. This measurement is essential for ensuring your lenses are positioned correctly in your frames, providing you with the clearest vision possible.

The Mirror Method
The easiest way to measure your PD at home is using a standard millimeter (mm) ruler and a mirror.
Stand Straight: Stand about 8 inches (20 cm) away from a mirror in a well-lit room.
Align the Ruler: Hold a millimeter ruler flat against your brow, resting it gently against the bridge of your nose.
Find the Center: Look straight ahead into the mirror. Close your left eye and align the “0” mark of the ruler with the center of your right pupil.
Take the Reading: While keeping your head perfectly still, open your left eye and close your right eye. Look at the measurement that aligns with the center of your left pupil.
Record the Number: The total distance (e.g., 62mm) is your PD.
Tip: It is best to do this 3 times to ensure you get the same result consistently.

Understanding Your Results
- Single PD (Binocular): Most people have one total number (e.g., 63mm). This is the standard measurement for most prescription glasses.
- Dual PD (Monocular): If you see two numbers, such as 31/32, it means your pupils are not perfectly centered in your face. The first number is your Right Eye (OD) and the second is your Left Eye (OS).
Average Adult PD: For most adults, the average PD falls between 54mm and 74mm. If your measurement is outside this range, double-check your reading or have a friend help you.
